![]() Brentwood, 1738 (Allen Road, approx. 1 mi. south of village) Map #17
Built by the Reverend Alexander Adams in 1738, this residence is a fine example of Georgian architecture with Flemish Bond brickwork. Rev. Adams came to Somerset County in 1704 as Rector of Stepney Parish. He had a large family and several of his sons and grandsons became prominent in local agriculture and business. The 1798 Federal Glass Tax Assessment for Somerset shows the following Adams businesses in the village of Trappe: a grist mill, a tavern, and a store. Next: Dashiell's Lott
