This residence was built by Colonel George Dashiell in 1733 on his plantation consisting of 1750 acres. That plantation incorporates much of the area in and around the village of Allen. Orphan's Court records from 1749 show that the property included not only the brick residence but also a weaving and spinning house, a brick milk house, two barns, two corn cribs, an office, a smith's shop, a log stable, a hen house, and a school house, as well as orchards and gardens.
