The John Huffington House (3369 Allen Road)

This home was the residence of John Huffington and his wife Caroline Hayman Huffington from 1878 until 1913. Mr. Huffington was a soldier during the Civil War in the Second Maryland Infantry, Confederate States of America. He was wounded at Gettysburg and at Petersburg. After the war, he returned to the village, married and in 1878 moved into this house. He had a blacksmith shop nearby. His son, J. Walter Huffington, served as Superintendent of Negro Schools in Maryland for many years.
