White Hall/Taunton Deane, c. 1790
(Polk's Road)

Map #20

Taunton Deane was purchased by Benjamin Cottman in 1671. Several generations of the Cottman family lived there. This house was built in 1790. In 1798 it was the home of Captain William Cottman and his wife Jane Dashiell. They lived there until 1815/16, when both died. It passed out of the Cottman family in 1832. An interesting property of the house are pre-Civil War murals on the walls of a second-floor bedroom.
