Whittington Hall
Map #11

Mary W. Allen purchased the property on which this house stands in 1822 from Stephen Drury for $700. The original home burned and was replaced in 1860 by this dwelling. During the Civil War Mrs. Allen hid draft-dodgers or deserters in cubby holes under the dormers of the second floor of the back wing. She taught village children in her dining room for many years. The home remained in the Allen family until 2004. The last member of the family to own it was Captain Lindley Allen Lentz, the great-great grandson of Mary W. Allen.
